Olivia Rodrigo — the cure

When the brief for Olivia Rodrigo’s “the cure” landed at Ways & Means it said: “I cannot stress enough that the entire hospital is made out of arts and crafts.” Working with directors Cat Solen and Jaime Gerin, we set out to do exactly that—a tactile world of cardboard corridors, felt hearts, yarn, beads and hand-animated details.


Producing the video meant bringing more than 125 artists, craftspeople and technicians together around one handmade vision. Production designer Liam Moore established a tightly controlled palette and a playful set of material rules: concrete and wood became cardboard, paper became fabric, liquids became beads and buttons, and blood became yarn.

The film combines live action, practical effects, puppetry and stop motion, with digital work to support what had been created in camera. The climactic unraveling alone brought directors, production design, animation and VFX into close collaboration, blending yarn pulled by puppeteers on set with stop-motion elements created in post.

The result is a fragile, funny and emotionally raw cardboard universe—built by hand in Los Angeles and brought to life frame by frame.
